Upon arrival to Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose (SJO), you will be met by Gustavo and Ricardo and transfer to the Bougainvillea Hotel, where you have the rest of the day to enjoy the wonderful gardens of the property.

Morning drive to “Cerro de la Muerte” our destination “Finca Los Serrano”, a high land paradise in the Oak Forest of this magnificent mountain range. This unique forest will produce birds such as the Golden browed Chlorophonia, Collared red start, Long tailed Silky Flycatcher, and the Resplendent Quetzal. Also, hummingbirds such as the White throated mountain gem, Magnificent hummingbird, and the Fiery throated Hummingbird, among others!

After breakfast we explore Oak Forest of Cerro de la Muerte. This unique ecosystem cannot be found anywhere in Central America and it contains an impressive number of endemic species of birds and small mammals. Located above 6000 feet above sea level the area will provide us with great opportunities to make fantastic photos as well as learn the natural history of this magnificent forest.

Departure to Las Cruces Biological Station Organization for Tropical Studies, home to the Wilson Botanical Garden – the most famous botanical garden in Central America. The garden features beautifully diverse plantings of tropical and subtropical ornamentals, representatives of unusual plant families, and rare and endangered plants from Costa Rica and elsewhere. The garden also boasts the second largest collection of palms in the world.

After breakfast we leave for a mangrove safari expedition, the largest mangrove forest of southern Central America, bordering the Corcovado National Park is a wildlife sanctuary that will give us great possibilities of spotting Monkeys, Crocodiles, Iguanas, Snakes, Turtles, and dozens of species of Birds. After our expedition we will return to our hotel where you can relax enjoy the beach or the pool.
Note: This could be a warm day so we recommend wearing shorts, since most of our outdoor activities will be on a boat, sandals will be great to wear.
After our visit we will drive to Cuna de Angel a very nice beach front property with a very tropical atmosphere.

After breakfast we go out to sea in search of humpback whales, this time a year the Northern population migrates south and finds refuge at Marino Ballena National Park, this three-hour expedition will take us around the park where we can also snorkel in search of tropical marine life. We can also find in this tour sea birds as well as dolphins of different species.
Afternoon to relax at the hotel and explore the surroundings, enjoy the beach and stroll looking for shells, optional tours are available, such as horseback riding, zip lining, etc.
